Sweet Margin is a bakery pricing calculator spreadsheet built for home bakers and small bakery businesses who want to know, for certain, what every bake costs and what to charge for it. Enter what you buy and what goes into each recipe. The workbook does the rest: cost per batch, order and item, profit, margin, a suggested price after fees, a stock list, an order plan and a shopping list that builds itself.
It is a standard Excel workbook (.xlsx) that we tested in Microsoft Excel for the web, Google Sheets and LibreOffice Calc. No macros, no add-ons and no subscription.
What This Bakery Pricing Calculator Does
Most recipe cost templates stop at ingredients. Sweet Margin adds everything that eats into your profit, so the price you set is one you can actually live on.
- Full recipe costing: ingredients, packaging, labor and overhead, shown per recipe, per order and per item.
- Smart unit conversion: measure in cups, tablespoons or grams and buy by the pound, ounce or gallon. The workbook converts it for you.
- Suggested price: the price that hits your target margin after card or marketplace fees, rounded up to a price you’d actually charge.
- Price scenarios: see profit and margin at -10%, -5%, +5% and +10% before you change a price.
- Sales projection and profit goal: enter monthly orders or a profit target to see the batches, items and revenue you need.
- Inventory with stock alerts: unit cost, In Stock, Low Stock, Out of Stock and Short for Orders, plus packs to buy.
- Order Planner: enter planned orders and see batches, revenue, cost, fees, profit and labor hours. Ingredient needs flow straight to your inventory.
- Automatic shopping list: every item you need to buy, with supplier phone numbers, packs to buy and an estimated total.
- Dashboard: six key numbers, your top five recipes by profit, a reorder list, alerts and four charts.

How It Works
- Set up once. Pick your currency, labor rate, fees and target margin. Add monthly bills and the hours you bake.
- Add your inventory. Pack price, pack size and unit for each ingredient and box. Add grams per cup for dry goods you measure in cups.
- Build each recipe. Choose ingredients, packaging and labor from dropdowns, enter quantities and your selling price.
- Plan, price and shop. Check your margins, follow the suggested price, plan orders and shop from your list.
Cream cells are for your entries. White cells calculate automatically and are locked (no password) so formulas stay safe.

FAQ
Do I need Microsoft Excel?
No. It also works in Google Sheets and LibreOffice Calc, which are both free.
Can I measure in cups but buy flour by the pound?
Yes. Add grams per cup for that item on the Inventory tab and the workbook converts it automatically.
Does it work with metric units and other currencies?
Yes. Use g, kg, ml and l, and set any currency symbol once on the Settings tab.
How many recipes can I add?
Twelve recipe calculators, 200 inventory items and 50 suppliers per workbook. Save a second copy for more recipes.
