Lesson Plan Studio is a set of 16 editable lesson plan templates for teachers. You open a file, click a gray prompt, type, pick from a dropdown, tick a box, and you are done. No layout to fix. No tables to drag around. Print the plan or keep it on your computer.

Lesson Plan Templates for Every Kind of Planning

Most teachers end up with one plan format and bend every lesson to fit it. That works until you need a 5E science plan, a sub plan for tomorrow, or a pacing calendar for the whole month. This set gives each job its own layout, so the boxes on the page match the way you actually teach.

Every template is a standard Word (.docx) file. Every page is built with real tables, real heading styles and clean spacing. Text boxes grow as you type, so a long objective never gets cut off.

What You Get

The download holds 72 files in four folders. Here is the short version.

  • 64 individual templates: all 16 layouts in US Letter and A4, each in color and in black and white
  • 4 all-in-one files: every template in a single document, with a clickable contents page and a “Contents” link in each footer
  • 4 printable PDFs: blank pages for handwriting, one for each paper size and color choice
  • 1 user guide: a 9-page DOCX that walks through every feature

The 16 Templates

  • Daily Lesson Plan, one page
  • Formal Lesson Plan, two pages with standards, procedure, thinking levels and reflection
  • Gradual Release Lesson Plan (I do, we do, you do)
  • 5E Lesson Plan
  • Direct Instruction Lesson Plan
  • Reading Workshop Lesson Plan
  • Math Lesson Plan
  • Small Group Planner
  • Project-Based Lesson Plan
  • Substitute Teacher Plan
  • Weekly Lesson Plan by subject
  • Weekly Lesson Plan by time block
  • Unit Plan
  • Monthly Pacing Calendar
  • Standards Coverage Tracker
  • Lesson Reflection and Next Steps

The two weekly plans and the monthly calendar use a landscape page. Everything else is portrait.

Fillable Fields That Save Time

These are editable lesson plan templates with real form controls built in, not a flat table you have to retype over.

  • Click-to-type fields: gray prompt text disappears the moment you start typing
  • Dropdown lists: pick the subject, grade, period, grouping or thinking level instead of typing it
  • Date pickers: choose the date from a small calendar
  • Checkboxes: tick off materials, prep tasks and ways you will check understanding
  • Growing boxes: the layout stretches with your text

Who It Is For

Classroom teachers in elementary and middle school will use it most. It also suits homeschool parents, student teachers who must hand in formal plans, instructional coaches, tutors and substitute teachers. If you plan lessons for a living, there is a page here for you.

How It Works

  1. Download and unzip. Pick the US Letter or A4 folder, then color or black and white.
  2. Open a template and type. Click a prompt, fill it in, use the dropdowns and tick the boxes.
  3. Print it or save it. Print on your own printer, save a copy for your records, or export a PDF.

Want to write by hand? Use the blank printable PDFs. They have the same layouts without the form fields.

Use Cases

  • Writing a formal plan for your principal’s observation next week
  • Leaving a clear sub plan on Sunday night when you wake up sick
  • Mapping a fractions unit across four weeks with the Unit Plan and the Monthly Pacing Calendar
  • Planning small reading groups with the Small Group Planner
  • Tracking which standards you have covered so far this semester
  • Jotting a quick reflection after a lesson that did not land, so next year’s you remembers what to change

Customize It Your Way

The files are not locked. Change the fonts, rename a label, add a row, or delete a section you never use. Headings use real Word heading styles, so restyling the whole page takes a few clicks. The user guide shows how. Prefer a lighter look or a printer-friendly one? Choose the black and white version.

File Formats and Requirements

  • Templates: .docx (editable), PDF (blank, printable), plus the DOCX user guide
  • Paper sizes: US Letter (8.5 x 11 in) and A4
  • Software: any word processor that opens .docx files. Every file was tested in LibreOffice Writer, which is free. The dropdowns, date pickers and checkboxes are standard Word content controls, so Microsoft Word is a natural fit. Google Docs has not been tested, so the dropdowns and date pickers are not promised there.
  • PDFs: any PDF reader

Digital Download Information

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I type directly into the templates?

Yes. Click any gray prompt and type. Dropdowns, date pickers and checkboxes work the same way, with a click.

Do I need Microsoft Word?

No special program is required. Any word processor that opens .docx files will work. We tested the files in LibreOffice Writer. Word is the natural home for the dropdowns and date pickers. We have not tested Google Docs.

Can I print them?

Yes. Every page is set up with safe print margins in US Letter or A4. The blank printable PDFs are ready to go if you like to write by hand.

Which grade levels does it cover?

Pre-K through grade 12. The Grade dropdown lists every level. The templates are subject-neutral, with extra layouts for reading, math, science and projects.

Can I change the colors or fonts?

You can change the fonts and edit any label. If you want a different look, use the black and white set as a starting point.

Is it easy to edit if my text is long?

Yes. The boxes grow as you type. A very long entry in a small field can push a page onto a second sheet, so keep an eye on the print preview.

Can I share the files with my team or school?

The license covers one teacher for personal classroom use. Colleagues are welcome to buy their own copy.

What is the difference between the three weekly and monthly options?

Use the subject version when you plan by subject, the time-block version when you plan by the clock, and the Monthly Pacing Calendar for the long view.
